THE CLEMONS FAMILY
The
Clemons family was a very hard family to research. After 1880 they moved everywhere.
The Clemons that I could find were found from West Virginia to South Carolina.
I was told by another group of Clemons that James migrated from somewhere in South
Carolina (Darlington-Spartanburg). James and Sopha's family were all living in
the Morven township of Anson County in 1870 and 1880. Here is how I found them
to be from 1870 to 1880 in Anson County NC.
James Clemons was born sometime
around 1820 and married Sopha who was born sometime around 1846. Sopha was from
the very large Marshall family that lived in the Morven and Gulledge townships
of Anson at that time.
Note: Because James Clemons is almost 30 years
older than his wife Sopha, I am willing to bet anything that she is not his first
wife and that he fathered children before their marriage. I am also going to press
my luck and say that James is as old if not older than Sopha's mother and father.
I have really seen a lot of this all through my research of all my ancestors.
