Other African American Autry Families of Sampson County: Costan Autry

Costan is also a possible blood relative or slave relative to Ned Edward. He has been found to be associated with the same people that were closely associated with Ned and other immediate members of his family. He must have been the person that Ned's son Isaac followed to different parts of northeastern Cumberland County.

I found Costan and his family living in South Clinton in 1870. His family at the time was comprised of the following.
Costan Autry 19
Lena Autry 25
Della Autry 5
Walter Autry 5 months
Hannah Peterson 57 (This lady is also found living with Ned Edmund Autry's grandmother, Phyllis Herring of Bladen County, in 1880 with a nephew Daniel Moore who also lived in South Clinton)
Charity Peterson 15
Annie Peterson 14
Jane Boykin 18
Alice Underwood 24

In 1880 Costan was found living in the Carvers Creek (Linden-Godwin) areas of Cumberland County. His family at that time is listed below.
Costan Autry 25
Lena Autry 28
Joel Walter Autry 10
Della F Autry 15
James Autry 7
George F Autry 5
Sarah Autry 2

By 1900-1930 Walter was found living in the Black river area of Cumberland County (Godwin,Falcon and Wade). His family was listed as follows.
Walter Autry born abt. 1873
Easter Autry born abt. 1873 (by 1930 Walter's wife would be Alice)
Sampson Autry born abt. 1887
Oscar Autry born abt. 1889
John H Autry born abt. 1891
Lena Autry born abt. 1895
Oliver Autry born abt. 1899
Mary F Autry born abt. 1899
James F Autry born abt. 1904
Malicia Autry born abt. 1905
Stephen Autry born abt. 1899
Walter L Autry
Erasmus G Autry
Moses Autry (Stephen's son)
Cornelius Autry (grandchild)
Geneva Autry (granddaughter)
Herlice Autry (")

In 1920 I found Stephen and his family also living in Black River. His family consisted of the following.
Stephen Autry 21
Julia Autry 18
James Autry
Moses Autry

By 1930 Walter's son James F Autry was still living in Black River and was married to a woman named Gertrude. James was 25 and she was listed as being 23. Incidentally, Gertrude was the daughter of William Boykin and wife Dora Autry-Boykin who was the daughter of Isaac Autry. Costan's grandson married Isaac's granddaughter.
