Bladen County Slave Information



North Carolina's slave population peaked in 1860 with 331,059 slaves. At that time there were 374 slave-owning families in Bladen County. Collectively they owned 5,026 slaves. Of the 374 families, 166 owned less than five slaves and 103 of these families owned only one slave. Conversely the largest slave owner in Bladen County at the time was Isaac Wright . He owned 301 slaves .
